  • Attorney General Jon Bruning today announced former Hemingford police chief Mark Lindburg pleaded no contest to one count of attempted first degree sexual assault of a child, a Class II felony. Class II felonies carry a possible sentence of one to 50 years in prison.

“This man was in a place of leadership and a sworn officer of the law,” said Bruning. “His behavior was reprehensible and we will do everything we can to ensure he is held accountable for his crime.”

The plea stemmed from an investigation that showed Lindburg engaged in sexual interactions with an underage girl while on duty as Hemingford’s police chief.

Sentencing is set for August 28, 2013 in Box Butte County District Court.

Assistant Attorneys General Matt Lierman and Kale Burdick are handling the case.
