  • Fastenal, a maker and retailer of hard-to-find machine parts, is expected to locate in Nebraska City at a new building proposed for south 11th Street near the viaduct and Seventh Corso.
Fastenal began with a single store in Minnesota in 1967 and has grown to 2,600 stores. It provides replacement parts from original manufacturers and products for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of equipment.
Typical store inventory would include products ranging from machine screws to specialized motor bushings and bearings.
The company website promotes its motto of "Growth Through Customer Service" and its 2012 stockholders letter says store locations are an important part of their business model.
"The closer we are to the customer, the better we can understand their needs and help them improve their business," the letter says.
The company also reports growth of its Fast Solutions program, where industrial customers are offered parts 24-hours a day through vending machines.
Fastenal also manufactures hard-to-find parts and specialty machine parts for customers.
The location, which has been vacant since Kerr-McGee Refining closed, was sold to Tronox Worldwide in 2011 and later to Greenfield Environmental Multistate Trust.
