  • Attorney General Jon Bruning announced today Jeffrey Gomez, 37, of Osceola was sentenced 20 to 35 years in prison on one count of first degree sexual assault of a child in Polk County District Court. He also received concurrent sentences of four to five years each for two counts of third degree sexual assault of a child and two counts of child abuse. Gomez was convicted of the charges on May 20, 2013.

“This man robbed his victim of her innocence and betrayed her trust,” said Bruning. “Today’s sentence ensures he will be behind bars for a long time.”

The sentence stems from an investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol which determined Gomez had sexually assaulted the victim for approximately five months during 2011. She was approximately 13-years-old when the assaults began.

Bruning’s 2009 Legislative Package bill LB 97 created the 15-year mandatory minimum sentence for first degree sexual assault of a child between the ages of 12 and 15 committed by someone aged 25 or older.

The victim’s name has been withheld to protect her identity.

Assistant Attorney General Bill Tangeman handled the case in cooperation with the Polk County Attorney’s Office.
