Earl Pietzyk, 90, of Syracuse, died June 22, 2013, in Syracuse. He was born on March 1, 1923 to Paul and Edith (Dohm) Pietzyk, in Toronto, S.D.
He was a retired farmer and business man. In 1948, after his father’s death, he became a full time farmer and made it his life’s work to be a good steward of the land. He loved working with livestock and dozing. At various times in his career he sold feed and farm equipment.
On June 21, 1958 Earl married MaryLee Eichenberger and they raised five children. Earl spent quality time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He and MaryLee took several memorable trips across the United States and Europe. He was a long time member of St. Paulinus Catholic Church.
Earl is survived by his wife of 55 years, MaryLee (Eichenberger) Pietzyk, of Syracuse; children and spouses Gary (Martha) Pietzyk of Cook, Denise (Marvin) Logan of Lincoln, Kaye (John) Krause of Lincoln, Rex (Natalie) Pietzyk of North Bend, Wash., and Connie (Scott) McDonald of Chicago, Ill., and grandchildren Michelle and Andrew Pietzyk, Tara, Luke, and Sarah Logan, Michael and Brandon Krause, and Shelby Pietzyk.
He was preceded by brothers Ralph (Doris), Jim (Cathy), Leo and Joseph; and sister MaryAnn Morrissey (Norman “Cab”).
Funeral Mass is Wednesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Paulinus Catholic Church, Syracuse.
Visitation is Tuesday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral home, then at the church from 6 p.m. until time for the Rosary at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paulinus building fund or the family.
