    today that Nebraska’s preliminary unemploymentrate for May is 3.8 percent, seasonally adjusted. The jobless rate is 0.1 percent higher than the April rate anddown 0.2 percent from the May 2012 rate. “While the unemployment rate has increased slightly, the preliminary dataclearly indicates that the increaseis in part due to discouraged job seekers re-entering the labor market to begin looking for jobs again,” saidCommissioner of Labor Catherine D. Lang. “We encourage those who are unemployed to use the NebraskaDepartment of Labor jobs website, NEworks.nebraska.gov.” Non-farm employment is up by 14,322 jobs since April 2013 and by 7,541jobs since April 2012. The top threeprivate sector industries showing the largest gains over the previous month are Leisure and Hospitality,Professional and Business Services and Trade, Transportation and Utilities. The seasonally-adjusted national unemployment rate inMay was 7.6 percent, an increase of 0.1 percentfrom April. The May 2012 national unemployment rate was 8.2 percent. June 2013 data will be published Friday, July 19.
