  • Nebraska Monthly Unemployment Rate at 3.8%; Workforce Highest Since 2008

    today that Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment
    rate for May is 3.8 percent, seasonally adjusted. The jobl
    ess rate is 0.1 percent higher than the April rate and
    down 0.2 percent from the May 2012 rate.

    “While the unemployment rate has incr
    eased slightly, the preliminary data
    clearly indicates that the increase
    is in part due to discouraged job seekers re-entering th
    e labor market to begin looking for jobs again,” said
    Commissioner of Labor Catherine D. Lang. “We enco
    urage those who are unemployed to use the Nebraska
    Department of Labor jobs webs
    Non-farm employment is up by 14,3
    22 jobs since April 2013 and by 7,541
    jobs since April 2012. The top three
    private sector industries showing the largest gains ov
    er the previous month are Leisure and Hospitality,
    Professional and Business Services and Tr
    ade, Transportation and Utilities.
    The seasonally-adjusted national unemployment rate in
    May was 7.6 percent, an increase of 0.1 percent
    from April. The May 2012 national unemployment rate was 8.2 percent.
    June 2013 data will be published Friday, July 19.
