Ruby was born July 27, 1915 to Charles and Mary Zanker of Hamburg. She attended school in Hamburg. After living in Omaha a short time, she moved to California.
On March 4, 1939, she married John Nelson, who was in the Army at the time. After the war, they lived in southern California in Daly City, a suburb of San Francisco.
They later moved to Half Moon Bay, Calif., where they lived for many years and raised their daughter, Sharlee.
After her husband’s death in 1987, Ruby moved to Hamburg to be near her family.
She was a resident for 23 years, during which time she attended the First United Methodist Church, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered at the senior center.
She was preceded by her husband, John; daughter Sharlee;  sisters Hazel Vogel of Hamburg and Hilda Hilger of Moline, Ill.; and brothers Carl, Raymond, Paul and Harold Zanker, all of Hamburg.
Rash-Gude Mortuary in Hamburg was in charge of arrangements. According to Ruby’s wishes, no services were held. She was flown to a Half Moon Bay mortuary and buried in Sky Lawn Cemetery in San Mateo, Calif.
Paul and Carolyn Zanker’s son, John, of Lafayette, Ind., was present at the burial.
