  • Richard (Dick) Gamlin, 81, formerly of Nebraska City, died at Hermosa Beach, Calif., surrounded by his family and friends on April 30, 2013. He had fought a courageous battle with Progressive Myeloma remaining active until the end.
Dick will be remembered by many of his Nebraska friends having attended local City schools through graduation in 1949.  He attended Peru State College, University of Washington in Seattle followed with graduation with a bachelors of science degree from USC in Southern California in 1960. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from Long Beach State in California in later years.
His prestigious career in the aerospace industry spanned 35 years in Southern California working with Rockwell, Northrop, TRW, and McDonald Douglas. The highlight of his career was working on The Apollo 11 Space Program as an Analysis Engineer. He was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy his many hobbies and travel after his retirement. Dick had the opportunity to follow in the foot steps of his father, tracing Adolph Gamlin's wartime experiences in the Philippines from 1898-1902, as well as visit his German relatives in Southern Germany.
He is survived by wife Bonnie, sons Kurt and Todd, grandson Danny and sister Elizabeth Jean.
One sister, Mildred, preceded him in death.
He requested that he be buried in the family plot at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City. His parents were the former Adolph Gamlin and Dora (Alber) Gamlin, long-time residents of Nebraska City along with his aunt Ellen Alber, teacher in the Nebraska City High School for many years, and uncle Carl Alber, former orchard-man well known in Nebraska City.
