Edwin F. “Sonny” Steinhoff, 71, of Syracuse, died April 26, 2013, at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. He was born on April 1, 1942 in Nebraska City to Edwin Sr. and Hazel (Sugden) Steinhoff.
Edwin was baptized on May 24, 1942 and confirmed on May 25, 1956 both at Luther Memorial. Edwin was raised on a farm north of Syracuse. He started working on Highway 50 when he was 15 and then worked at a missile base after high school.
Edwin married Ronda Carrigan on April 20, 1963 in Council Bluffs. He then started farming and bartended at many different places including Avoca, Syracuse Golf Course, Otoe Spur Steak House, and the Post Home.
Edwin loved spending time with his family and friends and playing cards, pool and croquet. He had a great love of animals. Whenever he would leave somebody he always said “be careful” and never knew a stranger.
He is survived by wife Ronda Steinhoff of Syracuse; son Troy Steinhoff and wife Julie of Crete; daughters Dawn Collin and husband Tim of Auburn and Darci Carlson and husband Mark of Syracuse; grandchildren Travis, Renee, Mitchell and Spencer Steinhoff, Garrett and Tyler Collin, Grant and Cooper Carlson; sisters Phyllis Mueller of Lincoln and Kathy Royal and husband Roger of Syracuse; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded by brother-in-law Edgar Mueller.
Funeral services are Tuesday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse. Visitation is Monday, April 29, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial is at Park Hill Cemetery.
