  • John F. Gude, 77, of Hamburg died April 25, 2013 at his home. John was born on April 23, 1936 in Hamburg to John E. and Doris L. (Niemann) Gude. He graduated from the Hamburg High School in 1954. He married Clara Jean Nelson on July 14, 1956 at Hamburg.

  • John F. Gude, 77, of Hamburg died April 25, 2013 at his home. John was born on April 23, 1936 in Hamburg to John E. and Doris L. (Niemann) Gude. He graduated from the Hamburg High School in 1954. He married Clara Jean Nelson on July 14, 1956 at Hamburg.
    He started work on the construction of MBPXL at Phelps City, Mo., on April 23, 1964. He worked there from 1965 to 1971 and was appointed plant engineer. He bought a farm in March of 1968 and then farmed and worked construction until 2000 when he retired.
    John had a great love for horse racing. He owned race horses and enjoyed racing them, watching and betting on them. Although he loved his horses dearly, his greatest joy was his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    He is survived by wife Clara Jean Gude of Hamburg; children John N. Gude and wife Debbie of Omaha, Jean Anne Muenchau and husband Martin of Sherwood, Ore., and Janet L. Teten and husband Bill of Sidney; eight grandchildren: Natalie Golden, Christopher J. Gude, Nicole Muenchau, Mark Muenchau, Jina Sanders, Jessica Athen and husband Courtney, Stephanie Doty and Sammy Doty; great-grandchildren Lillie Athen and Shania Golden; siblings Cheri Hand of Bonner Springs, Kan., Kathy Blackburn of Kansas City, Kan., and Barbara Moore of Dotha, Ala.; pet dog “Buster”; other family and friends.
    He was preceded by brother James B. Gude in 2000 and infant brother Gerald Keith Gude.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
    The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at the funeral home.
    Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or Odyssey/Gentiva Hospice.
