While it took extra innings in a couple of the games, the Peru State Bobcat baseball team got out their brooms as they swept the home-standing Avila University Eagles over the weekend.
The 'Cats won 4-2 and 2-1 on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, Peru State won 3-2 in eight innings and 7-5 in nine innings. With the four wins, the Bobcats improved to 19-15 overall and 12-8 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC), good for third in the Western Division, and fifth overall. Avila fell to 18-19 and 8-10 in the HAAC. The Eagles are fourth in the same division as Peru State and seventh overall.
This Saturday and Sunday, another HAAC Western Division opponent, will be coming to Peru State. The Baker University Wildcats will be in town for two double headers, both beginning at 1 p.m. On Saturday, it will be Senior Day for the Bobcats.
Weather-permitting, Peru State will travel to Ottawa University on Tuesday, April 23, for a non-conference double header starting at 1 p.m.
The final games of the regular season will be at home on Saturday, April 27, when the 'Cats host Missouri Valley College with the games beginning at 1 p.m.
