Gladys C. Kruse, 104, died April 16, 2013 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. She was born Jan. 21, 1909, in rural Syracuse to William J. and Clara (Zahn) Kruse, Syracuse.
She was a retired elementary teacher who taught in rural schools of Otoe County and Unadilla and Lorton for 45 years. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Women’s Fellowship, Four Corners Club, Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Senior Citizen’s League, Friendship Group and Otoe County Museum of Memories.
She was a graduate of Syracuse High School and attended Peru State Teachers College and the University of Nebraska.
After retirement she enjoyed doing volunteer work at the museum, traveling, knitting, needlepoint and china painting.
Survivors include nephew Ralph and Jane Ross, Syracuse; great nephew Jason and Laura Ross, Syracuse; and many cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Relay for Life.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, also in Syracuse.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., all at the funeral home.
