Emma Frances Gallagher, 98, of Hamburg, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg following a short illness.
Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday April 9 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, by Father Dennis Juhl. Burial was at St. John's Cemetery.
Emma is survived by two sons, Dr. Michael J. Gallagher of Hamburg and William N. Gallagher and wife Moria of Hugo, Minn.; two grandchildren, Moreen Roe and husband Lee, Maplewood, Minn., and Liam Gallagher of Hugo, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hulbert "Mike" Gallagher; parents Alois and Mary (Bousek) Dunek; stepmother Sophia (Shimek) Dunek; and five brothers, Joseph, Frank, Louis, George and Charlie Dunek.
Emma was born March 14, 1915 in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident until moving with her husband to Hamburg following the flood of June 2008. She married Hulbert M. "Mike" Gallagher on Oct. 25, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died Feb. 8, 2009.
Emma was employed for many years as a printer at Souvenir Pen and Pencil Co. until her retirement.
Emma was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
