Margaret Faris died March 28, 2013 at Long-mont United Hos-pital, Long-mont, Colo., surrounded by her husband, Randall Faris, and other family members. Margaret was born Jan. 30, 1925 to Merlin and Alice Balfour in Syracuse. She was a 1941 graduate of Nebraska City High School, attended Peru State Teachers College, and taught country school before she married Randall Faris on March 17, 1944 at the Wyoming church near Dunbar and celebrated 69 years this year.
She was a hard working farmer’s wife, mother of three, a secretary, and finally retired as a Chartered Life Underwriter from Lincoln Mutual Life Insurance Company. She and Randall enjoyed camping and traveling with the Good Sam’s Club. They pulled their trailer to all corners of the country and then settled in a RV park in Apache Junction, Ariz., for several years. Margaret enjoyed going to the casinos, making crafts, crocheting, and playing cards.
She is survived by Randall; sister Barbara Esser of Nebraska City; brother Robert Balfour of Sidney, Neb.;, daughter Virginia (Ginny) Major of Longmont; sons Wayne Faris of Omaha and Kenneth Faris of Plattsmouth; granddaughters Bonnie Emerson of Greeley, Colo., Diane Smith of Denver, Kelley Gaither of Longmont and Bailey Jones of Ashland; six great-grandchildren, soon to be 7; and 1 soon to be great-great grandchild.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with burial at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse.
The family will greet friends on Friday April 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
