Leon Roy Wright, Sr., 86, of Nebraska City died March 17, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. Leon was born on Sept. 10, 1926, in Percival, Iowa, to John and Lillian (Lockett) Wright. On Feb. 17, 1945, Leon and Zola Rader were married.
They made their home in Nebraska City where Leon worked for Lipton-Morton House for over 44 years. After his retirement he worked at Arbor Lodge as a grounds worker for many years. Leon enjoyed going fishing with his grandchildren, family and friends; taking care of his livestock on the family farm and just tinckering, or as his mother would say, pitzing around in the garage.
Leon was preceded by his 5-year-old brother John Jr.
Survivors include his wife Zola Wright of Nebraska City; daughter Juanita Schnitzer and husband Eugene of Nebraska City, and Kelley Creek of Nebraska City; son Leon (Bub) Wright, Jr. and wife Debbie; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sisters Minnie Siemers of Kansas City, Mo., and Joan Mather of Nebraska City; brother Ronald Wright and wife Donna of Nebraska City; nieces; nephews; cousins and other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be Friday, March 22, from 1-8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m until service time at 11 a.m. at Peterson Mortuary.
Burial will follow at the Wyuka Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
