  • Dennis S. Drevo died peacefully Monday, March 11, 2013 of natural causes at his home in Norfolk. He had been in failing health for several years.

  • Dennis S. Drevo died peacefully Monday, March 11, 2013 of natural causes at his home in Norfolk.  He had been in failing health for several years.
    Dennis Stanley Drevo was born April 28, 1950 in Lincoln to Stanley and Irene (Schultz) Drevo.
        He was raised in Crete and graduated from Crete Senior High School in 1968. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He served honorably in the Navy from 1970-1974, Naval Reserve from 1974-1976, and in the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1976-1984.
        He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal along with two Letters of Commendation. Dennis was also honored by Ak-Sar-Ben in 1979 as Soldier of the Year for the Nebraska Army National Guard.
        Dennis married Karen Kay Wyatt in Unadilla June 26, 1976.  They lived in Seward until August 1977 when they moved to Columbus where Dennis was employed by Nebraska Public Power District.
        Dennis was very proud of his children and considered them his greatest accomplishment in life.
    Dennis attended Southeast Community College in Milford, graduating with distinction in 1977 with an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology.  Dennis earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in business administration from Kearney State College in 1986.
        In August 1987, Dennis and Karen moved their family to Norfolk.  Dennis worked in the Norfolk NPPD office until June 2000.  He worked for Stanton County Public Power, 2000-2003; Unique Books, 2004-2010; and Pathology Medical Services, 2009-2012.  He retired in 2012 due to his failing health.
        Dennis was a past president of the Norfolk Noon Kiwanis and a past member of the Norfolk Men’s Chorus. He loved to cook and bake and was well-known for his homemade jerky, breads, and most especially his kolaches.  He had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
        Dennis is survived by his wife, Karen Drevo of Norfolk; son Sam Drevo and wife Christine Drevo of Chandler, Ariz.; daughters Nancy Drevo of Wayne and Susan Drevo of Tulsa, Okla.; granddaughter Lauren Drevo of Chandler; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Jim Prichard of Arvada, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Paul Orvis of Imperial; parents-in-law Glen and Susie Wyatt of Syracuse; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Reg Wyatt and Joanne Bell of Lincoln; sister-in-law Teresa Wyatt of Tucson, Ariz.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Ruth Wyatt of Syracuse; many nieces and nephews; loyal friends and neighbors; and special pets Dusty, Socks, Charlie, Rufio, and Lost Boy.
        Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dean; and brother-in-law Laurence Wiruth.
        At Dennis’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. The family will honor him with the party he requested at a future date.  Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
