  • Nebraska City High School held a pep rally Wednesday for the speech team, which qualified for state competition in seven events.

    The Nebraska City cheerleaders opened the rally with a cheer created just for the speech team and challenged the speech team to a sing-off.

    The Nebraska City cheerleaders opened the rally with a cheer created just for the speech team and challenged the speech team to a sing-off.
    The drama interpretation team of Jake Tierra, Mark Little, Michael Collman, Helena Valquier and Andrew Finker presented a few minutes of their act.
    The drama interpretation team of MacKenzie Larson, Andrew Ferguson, Easton Banik, Kenia Balquier and Nicole Collins also qualified.
    Individual qualifiers were Ferguson, serious; Marcella Mercer, extemporaneous; Little, extemporaeneous; and Tierra, persuasive. Finkner and Collman also qualified with a duet.
    Students qualified for state by placing in the top three at districts on March 9.
    Speech coach Jenna Bowman said the 20 students on the speech team this year make the largest speech team since she has been at the school.
    The pep band finished with the school song.
