Jim Bush had a small grocery store on the corner and 17th and central ave...he had a big bike with  a huge  delivery basket on the front for deliveries in the neighborhood..jack Kuwitsky, Don Steinshouer and myself , all neighbor boys, often got to deliver groceries on the bike and he paid us well

then there was the Bartling Seed house on the corner of 15th st and Central Ave..A man by the name of Howard Robinson ran the business...Howard spent a lot of time managing the old John Browns Cave on Highway 2 long before it became what it is now,..there was just the building with the slave cave underneath that led to the creek..There slaves from the south were smuggled down the creek to the river where they were moved into Iowa and freedom.

Howard taught Jerome Keran, my cousin and myself how to make beanie shooters from old tire tubes and weeping water branches
