  • Sunday's snowfall accumulated to only a few inches and did not close schools on Monday, but it proved to be the most dangerous for local roadways.
The Otoe County Sheriff's Office reports 23 "slide offs" caused by snow and ice. This compares to a report of about five cars off the roadway following the eight-inch snow storm on Feb. 21.
The earlier snowstorm was predicted over a week in advance and received media attention, prompting sheriff's deputies to note that traffic was light as motorists heeded travel advisories.
There were no injuries reported from the slide offs March 10. Cars were in ditches on H Road, 64 Road and 24th Road, but most were along Highway 2.
Dan Giittinger, public properties director, said roads were slippery in Nebraska City. Crews continued to sand roads on Monday.
Nebraska City also had snow events on Dec. 20 and Jan. 30.
