  • Fire at Hamburg house declared arson; arrest made

  • Kevin Lewis Cully, 34, of Hamburg was charged with suspicion of first degree arson in connection with a Feb. 26 house fire in Hamburg.
    The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office received the call about the fire at 1107 Washington St., Hamburg, at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Feb. 26. The Hamburg Fire Department extinguished the fire and found it to be suspicious. The Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and determined the fire was arson.
    Major damage was limited to one room of the house, but smoke damage prevalent, said Fremont County Deputy Andrew Wake. The home’s occupant discovered the fire when he came home, said Wake.
    Investigation lead to the questioninf of Cully, who admitted to setting the fire, said Ron Humphrey, special agent in charge, state fire marshal’s office.
    Cully’s bond was set at $25,000.
