How full is your pantry? Canned fruits and vegetables provide a nutritious alternative to fresh produce and with all the nutrients. Matter of fact, lycopene, found in tomatoes, is easier absorbed fresh, than uncooked tomatoes. Canned foods are known for their long shelf life, but still be sure to rotate foods after each grocery purchase to ensure that older purchases are used first. Also read the label before making purchasing decisions. Look for low-sodium and reduced fat options. “Reduced sodium” versions of products will contain at least 25% less sodium than the regular version; where “sodium free” contains a maximum of 5 milligrams of sodium per serving.
