  • Missing since 1922, an historic loving cup stolen from the Battleship USS Nebraska silver set, has been recovered.
The loving cup (a two-handled cup designed for drinking from both sides so two can share it), will be presented to First Lady Sally Ganem by the NEBRASKAland Foundation at the Statehood Day Dinner March 2.
The cup had been stolen in 1922 and recently purchased from a New York City antique silver dealer. It was part of a silver serving set given to the Battleship USS Nebraska from the State of Nebraska in 1908. Prior to decommissioning the ship, the U.S. Navy returned the set in 1922 to the state on loan, but upon arrival it was discovered that the loving cup was missing. It will now rejoin the set, which is on display in the dining room of the Governor’s Residence.
