The 2013 Nebraska School Actives Association State Wrestling tourney has wrapped up in Omaha.
Both Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca and Nebraska City posted multiple medals in the three-day event.
The highlight of the event was the heavyweight rematch between the two schools in the finals.
Matt Clark of S-D-A edged Trent Kasbohm of Nebraska City by a final decision of 3-0. Like their previous match ups, the state final meeting was highly competitive. Neither wrestler scored a take down in the first period. Clark kept Kasbohm from scoring an escape in the second period. Clark scored an escape in the third period and then scored a two- point take down late in the match as Kasbohm took a risk on a head lock in a last second attempt to take the lead.
Jake Touchstone of Nebraska City also made the finals of the event at 170 pounds. He ended up in second place after losing in a competitive match against Chance Helmick of Beatrice.
Elsewhere, the Rockets got three medals in the wrestle backs on Saturday. Skyler Teten finished fourth at 138, and, in doing so, collected the third state medal of his decorated caterer for the Rockets.
John Essink, 152, also picked up his third state medal by finishing third. Both Essink and Teten are four time state qualifiers.
Gus Husen, 195, finished fifth for the Rockets.
The Pioneers wrestled back for two fourth place medals on Saturday. Those medals were won by Jay Sornson, 145, and Keyes Nelson, 195.
Turning to the team results, Omaha Skutt ended up as the Class B champion. Other teams in the top five were Scottsbluff, second; S-D-A and Plattsmouth, tied for third; and Alliance in fifth position. Nebraska City finished sixth.
