Frederick J. Kastens, Jr., 78, of Lorton, died Feb. 10, 2013 at St. Mary's Community Hospital in Nebraska City. He was born on Sept. 20, 1934 in Unadilla to Fred and Leona (Hillman) Kastens.
He attended school in various location including high school in Auburn. He graduated from high school in Aberdeen, S.D., and then furthered his education at the Lincoln School of Commerce, Lincoln.
Fred served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He married Carolle L. Paben on April 29, 1975 in Rock Port, Mo.
Fred was an insurance agent for many years owning and operating Kastens & Associates. He also owned Cornhusker Trophy Company where he built trophies. In addition, he was a partner in the Cornhusker Raceway Park /Wavlink Raceway Park from 1988 to 2010. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Carolle L. Kastens of Lorton children Cathy Hart of Red Oak, Texas, Vicky May and significant other Darrel Wellsandt of Talmage, Mike Stephens and wife Adina of Lincoln, and Michelle Stephens and significant other Tad Youker of Lincoln; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Hergenrader and husband Jim of Daytona Beach, Fla.; other family and many friends.
He was preceded by son Mike Kastens in 1983.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Pastor Penny Schulz officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail.
Following the interment, a time of fellowship and lunch will be held at the Dunbar Presbyterian Church, Dunbar.
The family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the mortuary.
