...THE one most of you remember the old bridge at the end of east 4th corso...that bridge was built in Oct 1930..it was a toll bridge and you paid regardless of whether you came from Iowa or leaving Neb City..The bridge was finally paid off and it became a free bridge in 1955..that was long before the new 4 lane bridge connected with I-80 and Iowa 2 came into existence on the south end of Nebraska City.
Prior to the old bridge.. several pontoon bridges existed from Iowa to Neb City ..at least one destroyed by ice and flood waters..Cant find any info the second one...it was not a straight bridge but a series of curved pontoons..to help battle the weather..Covered wagons and stage coaches used these bridges heading to the west
