  • After falling to Utah Valley University in a Jan. 28 exhibition, the Peru State men’s basketball team returned to action Saturday in Canton, Mo., against the second place team in the Heart of America Conference standings.
    Culver-Stockton College ended up taking a 99-65 victory. Efficient shooting was key for Culver-Stockton as the home team drilled 47 percent of their shots from the field, including 15 three-point baskets and also excelled at the charity stripe in hitting 80 percent of their shots.
    Peru State was within 14 points at one point in the first half, but didn’t get closer as Culver-Stockton took a 22-point lead to the break and never looked back.
    St. Joseph, Mo., native Derrick Williams led the Bobcats with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 shooting at the free throw line.
    The Bobcats are now 9-14 overall and 2-10 in league play. Culver-Stockton is now 18-6 overall and 9-3 in league play.
    Peru State will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Baker University.
    Baker is sixth in the HAAC with a 7-6 conference mark and are 14-9 overall.
