John W. Hatten of Fremont, Calif., died Nov. 7, 2012. He was born in Hamburg April 19, 1926.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kay Hille-Hatten; children, Sally Drummond (Ed) and Thomas Hatten (Christine); grandchildren Tera Ford (Peter), Shawn Hatten, Heather Drummond, Laurel Stark (Mike); great-grandchildren Kaia and Jalen Wall, Emma and Tobin Ford; sister-in-law Jean Hatten; nieces Sue Draper, Stacey Hatten, Mary Kay Creech and nephew Rick Hatten.
He was preceded by parents Ora and Ethel Hatten, sister Ann (Sheirbon) and brothers Ben and Larry.
John was proud of his service in the Navy and later as a career Air Force officer and navigator. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he established a successful career in real estate as a broker, manager, regional director and division manager of Century 21 of the West by his retirement at age 70. He and Kay continued in management of their rental properties.
John highly valued his education from San Jose State University and received a MBA in Industrial Management as well as a MS in education from the University of Southern California. He published two books and had a third not yet published.
John was a true gentleman with a warm smile, generous nature, integrity and love of life.
A family and friends remembrance was held Jan. 12. Memorials are suggested to Doctors Without Borders, Alameda County Food Bank or TriCity Volunteers, Inc.
