John L. Penney, formerly of Otoe and Cass counties, died Jan. 24, 2013. He was born Jan. 17, 1915.
He was a veteran of World War II and had a 40-year career in education as a teacher, administrator, counselor and coach, at schools in Nebraska and Kansas.
He was preceded by wife of 70 years, Ella Biere Penney; parents Clyde and Edith Omer Penney; brothers Lee, Norman and Donald; sisters Louise Larsen and Shirley Baker.
He is survived by sons Tom (Starr) Penney of Omaha and Michael Penney of Papillion; grandchildren Nathan (Analia) Penney of Tampa, Fla., Joseph Penney of Wichita, Kan., Andrea (Mark) Karpf of Omaha, and Emily (Paul) Belacera of Overland Park, Kan.; and great-grandchildren Preston, Adriana, Harrison and Thomas.
Memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Ralston United Church of Christ, 7638 Maywood St. Memorials are suggested to Odyssey Health Care.
