  • Jack R. Gibson, 70, of Hamburg died at his home on Jan. 23, 2013. He was born on Oct. 22, 1942 at Newton, Iowa, to George Rex and Mary Louise (Hall) Gibson.

  • Jack R. Gibson, 70, of Hamburg died at his home on Jan. 23, 2013. He was born on Oct. 22, 1942 at Newton, Iowa, to George Rex and Mary Louise (Hall) Gibson.
    He graduated from Newton High School in 1961. He attended Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Mo., where he participated in track at the university.
    Jack served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He served as a sonar specialist in submarines. He was discharged in 1970. He worked as the golf pro at the Sidney Golf Course for 34 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Hamburg American Legion and a life-time member of the PGA.
    He is survived by children Paul Gibson of Nevada, Iowa, Stacy Gibson and wife Julie of Omaha and Melissa Gibson of Hamburg; step-son Alex Hollingsworth of Bellevue; grandchildren Christopher, Zachary, Miranda, Jared, Katelyn and Jacob Gibson; great-grandchildren Vincent and Avery Gibson; sister Marilyn Gaylor and husband Jim of Polk City; brother George Gibson and wife Sally of Indianola; seven nieces and nephews; other family and many friends.
    Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg with Jack’s brother Rev. George Gibson officiating at the services. Inurnment will be in the Newton Cemetery, Newton, at a later date.
    Memorials may be given to the G. Rex Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
