Melvin A. Eaton, Jr., 62, formerly of Johnson, died Jan. 14, 2013 in Runge, Texas. He was born Oct. 19, 1950 in Nebraska City to Melvin A. and Lois Leibbrandt Eaton. He grew up in Union and Brock.
He was a member of the Christian Church where he was baptized. He graduated from Johnson Brock Schools in 1969.
He was then an apprentice at Cooper Nuclear Station. He moved to Lincoln and worked for Kawaski. In 1977 he attended Tulsa Welding School and developed a love for his new craft. He traveled the country extensively and was an accomplished journeyman welder.
He enjoyed the outdoors and nature and enjoyed spending time on the Ol’ Nemaha River fishing and camping, especially with his nephew and niece, Nate and Nikki, teaching them the tricks of catching the “keepers.”
He enjoyed bird hunting and bow hunting of deer and spending time with family playing cards.
He was preceded by his father in 1979 and brother Marvin A. Eaton in 2000.
He is survived by mother Lois J. Eaton of Johnson; sisters Brenda Grube of Johnson and Becky Jones and husband Dick of Monroe, Iowa; nephews Nathan Grube and wife Jenny of Waverly and Shawn Eaton of Jacksonville, Fla.; nieces Kimberly Wilson and husband Garrett of Jacksonville, Nikkie Grube of California, Mo., and Shannon Lawrence and husband Brian of Warner Robin, Ga.; 11 great nieces and nephews, Megan, Emma, Olivia, Broc, Bailey, Azalee, Nicolas, Croft, Grant, Brianna and Jamie; and other family and friends.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date in Union Cemetery, Union.
