  • The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) announced today that a check in the amount of $984.47 has been sent of the American Red Cross to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy.  This money was generated after the Department received numerous inmate requests to help the victims.

Nearly 50 inmate donations were received and ranged from $1.00 to $105.  Inmates are paid $1.21 to $3.78 per day with approximately fifteen (15) percent of NDCS inmates employed in higher paying industry jobs.

Director Houston said, “It is sometimes not known by the public that inmates send money home for support, pay for their own amenities and now are giving to victims of this very destructive storm.  I am impressed by this generosity.”
