  • The Lourdes girls’ basketball team will go in search of a MUDECAS tourney title at 7 p.m. tonight at the Beatrice City Auditorium against Johnson County Central.
Coach Clay Carlton said the secret to success for his team will be in logging a more complete effort.
The Knights played well early in a loss to Johnson County Central at the Auburn Holiday tournament late last month.
“We’ve got to play 32 minutes instead of just playing a half,” said Coach Carlton.
Johnson County Central has a lot of good shooters, said Coach Carlton, and a cold streak by the Thunderbirds can give foes a false sense of confidence.
“They can shoot themselves out of a game and then shoot themselves right back into it,” Carlton said.
Offensively, the Coach Carlton said the Knight offense will need to find a way to knock down more shots in order to garner the MUDECAS tourney title.
Turning to Thursday night, the Knights limited Pawnee City’s top two players for the second time this season and came away with a 36-33 win.
Jenna Habegger, Pawnee City’s 6’1” post player, ended up with 12 points on the final stat sheet, most of that coming in the third quarter, and the Knights also did a good job of limiting their opponent’s top shooting guard.
“The defense was really good. We executed the game plan really well,” said Carlton.
