In girls' basketball action from Thursday night, the Lourdes girls' basketball team beat Pawnee City 36-33 in second round action of the MUDECAS tournament at Beatrice. Meanwhile the Nebraska City girls' team fell to Gretna by the count of 72-24.
With its win on Thursday night, the Lourdes girls' team raised its season record to 8-6 and punched its ticket for the MUDECAS tournament finals, which will be at 7 p.m. Friday night at the Beatrice City Auditorium against Johnson County Central.
The Knights will be looking to avenge a loss to Johnson County Central from the Auburn Holiday Tournament. Lourdes got off to a quick start in that game, but was unable to keep the momentum in a 40-33 loss.
Thursday's contest at Gretna was the first in a long string of upcoming road dates for the Nebraska City girls' team. The Pioneers, who play Saturday in a 6 p.m. tilt at Omaha Gross and Thursday, Jan. 17, in a 7:30 p.m. game at Omaha Mercy, will not return to the home court until Jan. 29, when Nebraska City hosts Crete for a 6:30 p.m. tip.
