Arlin John William Klingenberg, 92, died Jan. 1, 2013 at the Rosewood Care Center in Swansea, Ill. He was born on Feb.1, 1920 in Syracuse to William and Mathilda (Fricke) Klingenberg.
He was raised in the Syracuse area and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1939. He served in the Army during World War II then worked as a carpenter most of his life. He married Irene Rieckman on June 28, 1953 in Murdock.
He was a member of the Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion and the Mid Otoe County V.F.W. #5547. He enjoyed many spectator sports as well as bowling and traveling.
He is survived by son Dean (Loretta) Klingenberg; daughter Diane (Jerald) Campbell; grandchildren Andrew Klingenberg, John (Chor) Campbell, Allison (David) Ziemann and Meredith Campbell; great-grandchildren Anna Ziemann and Lily Ziemann; sister-in-law Iola Rieckman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his wife Irene Klingenberg and sister Elaine Landwehr.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, Syracuse, with Rev. John Finster officiating.
Burial was at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's UCC of Syracuse or American Legion.
