Homer L. Greenwood, 91, of Hamburg died Dec. 29, 2012 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg. He was born on Oct. 25, 1921 at Thurman to Elmer and Thelma (Martin) Greenwood. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1938. Homer served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during World War II .
He married Corinne C. Crain on March 27, 1949 in Hamburg. He worked at Mt. Arbor Nurseries in Shenandoah and at Interstate Nurseries in Hamburg for many years until his retirement. He was active in the community and was a member of the Hamburg Kiwanis, Grape Community Hospital Foundation, American Legion, United Trinity Church and the American Association of Nurserymen.
He is survived by wife Corinne Greenwood of Hamburg; son Scott Greenwood and wife Pam of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren: Caroline Greenwood of New York City, James Greenwood of Orlando and Emily Greenwood of Orlando; brother Jack Greenwood and wife Ruth of Seattle, Wash.; sister Frances Gump and husband Dale of Eugene, Ore.; other family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. at the United Trinity Church in Hamburg with Pastor Daniel Voigt officiating. Burial will follow in the Hamburg Cemetery with complete military services conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
Memorials may be given to the United Trinity Church or the Grape Community Hospital Foundation in his memory.
