A snow emergency is declared for downtown Nebraska City on Thursday night so crews can pick up snow.

Dan Giittinger, public properties director, said there was not a lot of snow but the sleet earlier Wednesday evening left plenty of ice.

The city parking lots will be available for people to park. During a snow emergency, parking is not allowed on downtown streets. Gittinger said snow removal should go from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m. on Friday.

Law enforcement reports only a few "slip offs" on roadways following this winter's first snow event.
