Dennis “Denny” Poirier, 63, of Union died at St. Mary’s Community Hospital in Nebraska City Dec. 17, 2012. He was born April 26, 1949 at Brockton, Mass., to Wilrose and AnnaBelle (Blanchette) Poirier. He married Laura Woods July 17, 1971 at Great Falls, Mont.
He is survived by wife Laura Poirier of Union; sons Tony Poirier and wife Melinda of Wiesbaden, Germany, Mark Poirier and wife Karen of Stevens Point, Wis., and Daniel Poirier and wife Tressa of Tomah, Wis.; daughter Stacy Farber and husband Anthony of Lincoln; grandchildren AnnaBelle, Rebecca, Jessica, Stephanie, Nicholas, Samara, Ruthie and Aaron; brothers Norman Poirier of Ohio, and Paul Poirier and wife Sally, John Poirier and Leo Poirier, all of Massachusetts; sisters Marie Palmer of Georgia, Elaine Gilgis of Massachusetts, and Jeanette Hebert of Massachusetts; many other relatives and friends.
He has lived in Union for 36 years. He has worked at Cargill for the past four years, but had previously worked at the Cass County Jail and Cass County Courthouse. Denny served in the United States Air Force for 22 years with an Honorable Discharge in 1989. He loved working on the farm and the outdoors. He was a past member of the Union Volunteer Fire Department and loved helping people.
Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Calvary Community Church in Nebraska City with Rev. Dr. Norman Anderson officiating.
A memorial fund has been established.
