Donald Duane “Don” Holman, 81, of Plattsmouth died Nov. 30, 2012 at Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, Neb. He was born Feb. 17, 1931 in Hamburg to Oscar and Leta (Leckenby) Holman.
He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1949. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Matney in Farragut on March 24, 1951. He worked as a pipeline construction project superintendent. He later was street superintendent for the City of Plattsmouth, Neb. He and Liz owned and operated the Avenue Bar.
Don was an avid baseball fan and played in Hamburg city leagues as a young man. He once batted against Satchel Page in an exhibition game. He enjoyed watching sports, reading, hunting, fishing, billiards and golf.
He was a member of Plattsmouth Lodge #6 A.F.&A.M. and the Plattsmouth Eagles Club FOE #365. Don’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by wife Liz Holman of Plattsmouth; daughters Sandy (Jim) McKnight of Plattsmouth, Linda (Rob) Brown of Elkhorn, Neb., and Teresa Hobbs of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Debra McKnight, Heather Hobbs, Nancy (Jenkins) Kirk, Doug McKnight, Michelle Hobbs, Dan Jenkins, Greg McKnight; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Helen Courtney of Hamburg; sister-in-law Marlene Matney of Omaha; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded by brothers Robert and Leonard Holman and sister Ruth Briley.
Funeral service was Dec. 4 at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsmouth with Rev. Michael Patzloff and Rev. Debra McKnight officiating.
Music was by Mark Kurtz.
Pallbearers were Heath Hobbs, Nancy Kirk, Doug McKnight, Michelle Hobbs, Dan Jenkins and Greg McKnight.
Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Kerns, Terry Kerns, Len Holman, Kevin Wagner, Richard Hurd and Rod Jenkins.
Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth.
Brian P. Harvey Funeral Home in Plattsmouth was in charge of arrangements.
