Donations to the Nebraska City Police Department are resulting in more children involved in the second year of the "shop with a cop" program.
Sgt. Dana Schebaum said the generosity of the public will allow police to shop with 11 children this year.
In the first year of the program, which was funded by a single donation, five children were taken to shop for their families.
Police will pick up children at their homes and go to Valentino's for breakfast on Saturday. They will shop at Walmart and return to the Rowe Safety Complex to wrap gifts.
Sgt. Schebaum said the program gives the children positive interaction with police and benefits both the families and the officers.
"It is a great way to make the holidays brighter," she said.
