Dorothy Faye (Risdon) Winkler, 96, of Hamburg died Dec. 3, 2012 at the Fair Oaks Care Centre in Shenandoah. Dorothy Faye Risdon was born on Oct. 24, 1916 to Ralph and Mamie Risdon on a farm east of Hamburg.
The Risdon family moved west of Hamburg where she attended Cox Chapel Country School through the 8th grade. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1934. She then worked for two years for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator.
At 13 years of age, Dorothy joined the First Baptist Church of Hamburg where she was a loyal member for 83 years. Her involvement included nursery Sunday school pianist and teacher, Women’s Missionary Society, kitchen supervisor and choir member.
On Nov. 14, 1936 Dorothy married Oren Carl Winkler.
Her children were her focus as she attended countless church and school activities. Other community activities included the Grape Community Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and the Senior Center.
She is survived by her three sons, George Winkler and wife Janeth of Hamburg, Duane Winkler of Farragut, Tenn., and Charles Winkler and wife Sue of Hamburg; son-in-law Dan Head of Imogene; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister Loah Stanfield of Omaha; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 40 years, Oren; infant daughter Beverly Faye in 1941 and daughter Clarice Anne Head in 1973; sisters Myrtle and Ruth; and brothers Merle and Paul.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the First Baptist Church in Hamburg with Pastor Tom Beutler
officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Hamburg.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
