  • Alida Mate Holtgrewe, 85, of Talmage, died at Golden Living Center in Neb-raska City Dec. 6, 2012. She was born June 9, 1927 at Talmage to John and Matilda (Folkerts) Gadeken . She married Merlyn Holtgrewe Aug. 5, 1948 at Talmage.
    She is survived by husband Merlyn Holtgrewe of Talmage; son James Holtgrewe and wife Barbara of Marquette; grandson James Holtgrewe, Jr. and wife Megan of Broken Bow; sister-in-law Delphine Griepenstroh of Nebraska City; many other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded by son Allen and an infant brother.
    She lived in the Talmage area her entire life. Alida attended Brock Public Schools and graduated in 1945. She was baptized, confirmed and married at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Talmage by Rev. Hofferman.
    She worked for the Bank of Talmage prior to her marriage then returned in 1966 and worked for 30 years until her retirement. Alida and Merlyn farmed north of Talmage.
    She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed her life on the farm, gardening, and raising chickens and angora rabbits. She taught bible school and Sunday school at St. John's United Church of Christ and helped prepare soup for the annual church soup supper. She studied genealogy. She and her cousin Imogene Ivers flew to Germany several years ago to meet their cousin and see the sights. Alida and Merlyn played cards for over 50 years with a card group of family and friends.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at St. John's United Church of Christ (McWilliams) near Talmage with Rev. Curtis Rieger officiating.
    Burial will be at St. John's (McWilliams) Cemetery near Talmage.
    Memorials are suggested to St. John's United Church of Christ.
    Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.marshallfuneral.com.
