  • The Nebraska City wrestling team will look for its second invitational championship of the young season on Saturday when the Pioneers travel to compete at the Crete Invite.
    Teams attending the Crete tourney this year are Central City, Adams Central, Junior-Senior, Ashland-Greenwood, Fairbury, Falls City, Milford, Ralston, Seward, Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca, Thayer Central, Tri County, Waverly, and Wilber-Clatonia.
    Also of note on the wrestling side, Nebraska City is hosting a junior varsity invite today at the high school. Teams attending the 4 p.m. event include Ashland-Greenwood, Beatrice, Bellevue East Senior, Boys Town, Fairbury, Falls City, Gretna, Lincoln Northeast, Millard South, Millard West, Norris, Plattsmouth, Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca, and Tekamah-Herman High School.
    Turning to basketball, the Pioneer boys' and girls' teams will be in action on Friday against Plattsmouth. The Pioneer teams opened thier season last week with losses to Bennington. Game time for Friday's action against Plattsmouth is 4:30 p.m. for the junior varsity girls' game. That action will be followed by the JV boys, varsity girls, and varsity boys.
    In Lourdes girls' and boys' basketball action, the Knight teams will travel to play Humboldt-TRS on Thursday. Action begins at 4 p.m. Both Knight teams are 1-1 on the season. The girls' team beat Lewiston and lost to Johnson-Brock by one point last week. The boys' team lost to Lewiston and defeated Johnson-Brock 38-31.
