Nebraska City church choirs and musicians performed together Dec. 2 for the 32nd annual advent recital.
The recital, held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, featured music and scripture readings, culminating in the traditional mass choir of all the churches singing Silent Night.
The Belle-a-Peelin' and AppleCorps Barbershop Chorus also sang. The Apple Corps' selections included an arrangement by the chorus' Bruce Jeffries putting music to the famous Canadian tale "Twas in the Moon of Wintertime."
Churches participating were Bethel United Church of Christ, St. Benedict's Catholic Church, St. Mary's, First Evangelical Lutheran, First United Methodist and First Christian Disciples of Christ.
Congregational hymns were "Away in the Manger," "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "What Child is This?" "The First Noel" and "We Three Kings."
Directors included Beverly Hall, Sister Ana Maria, Beth Box, Dan DeFreece, Dorothy Broers, Stephanie Stanek, Kim Quimby, Connie Gieseking, Dean Thomson and Bruce Jeffries.
