  • The Nebraska City City Council will consider appointing a swimming pool committee at its Monday, Dec. 3, meeting beginning at 6 p.m. at city hall.
Suggested for the committee are Phil Silvius, Kim Aldana, Jan Pummel, Katie Digmann and Tim Stewart. Advisors are Parks Commissioner Jeff Crunk and Recreation Director Scooter Edmisten.
A proposal to use a half cent sales tax to build a new swimming pool failed in the general election.
The council will also consider a new roof for the Morton-James Public Library.
Bids are being sought for shingle and composite tile roofing material.
The library board reports that the lightweight composite tile is weather, fire and mold resistant and has a 50-year warranty.
The city council has budgeted $45,000 for the roof project, but expects composite tile to exceed that amount.
The roof on the older portion of the library was replaced as part of the 2001 construction project, but has experienced multiple leaks.
The roof is currently leaking around the chimney area. The wall on the opposite side, near the older staircase, and the non-fiction areas also show signs of water damage. Two other leaks have been observed.
Because of the difficulty in finding the access point of the leaks, the library board recommends a new roof.
