Hundreds of Nebraska Citians lined Central Avenue Friday afternoon for a final goodbye to William Perkins, who was widely known as Walkin' Willie.
Perkins, 79, "was an honest man" said one man at his funeral service at Gude Mortuary.
It was among many remarks and memories that brought jollity to the solemn funeral service.
John James offered his memories of meeting Perkins and making the decision to try and understand what the man was saying.
"The more I listened the more I got to know the man," he said. "Some might say that God did not give him the best hand, but Willie never saw it that way.
"He's walking in Heaven now," James said.
The procession entered Central Avenue at Sixth Street and turned south at 11th Street on the way to Hamburg for a downtown procession there. Perkins will be burred in Riverton, Iowa.
