John Dale Halvorsen, 95, of Palmyra died at Syracuse Good Samaritan Center on Nov. 28, 2012. He was born Dec. 16, 1917 at Unadilla to Herman Earl and Minnie Marie (Beckard) Halvorsen. He married Norma Barb Henderson in 1941.
He is survived by children Sharon Pole of Hoopa, Calif., Sherrill (Buddy) Snipes of Palm Springs, Calif., Phyllis (Richard) Newman of Irvine, Calif., Jackie (Jerry) Sporhase of Palmyra, John Jr. (Kathy) Halvorsen of Riverside, Calif., and James Earl Halvorsen of California; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother Marvin (Jennie) Halvorsen of Syracuse, Virgil Ted (Wilma) Halvorsen of Palmyra, and Larry (Rose Marie) Halvorsen of Unadilla; and brother-in-law Delbert Heather of Syracuse.
He was preceded by sister Marie, brother Earl Jr., and three grandchildren, Peggy, Yvette and Johnny.
He worked as a machinist on air craft parts.
Visitation is Friday, Nov. 30, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at United Methodist Church in Palmyra with Rev Sally Ruggia Haden officiating. Burial will be at Unadilla Cemetery. Carole Lashley is organist.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
