Donna Jean Pope, 80, died Nov. 13, 2012 in Spokane, Wash. She was a 48-year resident of Spokane and Spokane Valley. She was born on April 1, 1932 on her grandparents' farm in Enders, Neb., to Clarence and Ethel Embury.
She attended high school in Nehawka, graduating as valedictorian of her class.
She married Donald E. Pope on July 22, 1950 in Nehawka. They moved to the northwest after falling in love with the area while on family vacations, traveling to Oregon and Washington.
Donna taught herself to paint beautiful landscapes in oil. She enjoyed exploring many other ways of expressing her creativity. She also enjoyed gardening and was known for her many plants inside and outside her home.
Donna is survived by her mother, Ethel Embury, of Lakeview, Colo.; sister Marilyn Speakman of Oscoda, Mich.; brother Ron Embury of Golden, Colo.; children Tom Pope (Lorrie) of Valley Ford, Wash., Jane Maines of Toledo, Ore., Sue Morris (Derrick) of Salinas, Calif. , Mike Pope of Vancouver, Wash., and Sharon Vasconcelos (Ken) of Spokane Valley; dear friend Sue Mansir of Spokane Valley; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Preceding her in death was her husband Don in 2003 and youngest brother Jerry Embury in 2001.
A service will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 11 a.m. in Nebraska City through Gude Mortuary. Her children will escort her to be laid to rest next to her husband, Don. The details of the location and time will be posted on her facebook page.
