Mattie Mae Sim, 87, of Lincoln died at home Nov. 8, 2012. She was born April 7, 1925 at Shubert to Arthur Lawrence and Mattie Katherine (Barker) Handley. She married Eugene Francis Sim Dec. 11, 1947 at Nebraska City.
She is survived by sons Stephen Eugene Sim and Stanton Wayne Sim, both of Lincoln; daughter Mary SimBarcelos Debebe and husband Joseph of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Mattie SimBarcelos and Nile Debebe; sisters Virginia Jensen and husband Donald of Lenoir, N.C., and Mary Margaret Hoag and husband Kenneth of Sedona, Ariz.; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded by her husband Dec. 22, 1998; six brothers: Wayne Barker, Gail Handley, Bryce Handley, Logan Handley, Landon Handley and Gene Handley; and sister Merle Nelson.
She lived in Bancroft, Coleridge, Beatrice, McCook and Nebraska City before moving to Lincoln in 2004. She was a homemaker, clerical worker and sales clerk.
She loved gardening, sewing, cooking and traveling. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Nebraska City with Pastor Diane K. Jahn officiating. Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Monday at Marshall Funeral Chapel with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.
