Arlene Henrietta (Gartner) Gruber, 89, died at the Louisville Care Center on Nov. 7, 2012. She was born Sept. 16, 1923 on a farm in Otoe to Henry and Anna (Hahne) Gartner. They later moved to a farm south of Unadilla.
She was married on May 23, 1948 to Ernest Gruber and moved to Louisville. Arlene was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening and canning while raising her family. She was involved in United Methodist Women, various evening social groups, taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years, and was a Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends.
She is survived by husband Ernest Gruber, sons and daughters-in-law Terry (Jackie) Gruber, Loveland, Colo., Rick (Marlene) Gruber, Louisville, and Randy (Gina) Gruber, Shawnee, Kan.; grandchildren Travis Gruber, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Caleb Gruber, Denver, Sheri (Shane) Meredith, Omaha, and Nick Gruber (fiancée Tammy Palmer), Omaha; great-grandchildren Prestin and Payton, Omaha; sisters-in-law Viola Gartner and Averil Gartner of Unadilla and Mary Gartner of Syracuse; brother-in-law Robert (Dick) Fredrickson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers Ralph, Randall and Alton (Hantz) Gartner; brothers-in-law John (Jiggs) and Robert Gruber; and sisters-in-law Pauline Fredrickson and Lorene Gruber.
Funeral services are Saturday, Nov. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Louisville. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Louisville.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
