  • The Peru State volleyball team recently wrapped up its fall campaign, while the basketball teams opened their seasons and the cross country team qualified an individual runner for nationals.
    Peru State fell to the Graceland University Yellowjackets last week by scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-19 last week to finish the season at 10-23 overall and 2-7 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. Benedictine College and Peru State finished in an eighth place tie in the conference standings, but Benedictine advanced to the conference tournament based on a head-to-head tie breaker.
    Bobcat senior runner Sarah Williams, a native of Hiawatha, qualified for the championship that will be held in Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 17 by finishing fourth at the Heart of America Athletic Conference meet on Nov. 3. Williams was just a few seconds off her personal best for the 5K run with a time of 18:56.3.
    Both of Peru State's basketball team won their opening games of the season.
    The Peru State men won their first season-opening game since a 2005 victory over Doane College by defeating AIB College by a count of 84-78 at Des Moines on Saturday.
    The Peru State women topped Tabor College 77-70 at home on Friday.
